Writer's notes:
This book came into being as a result of frustration of the author, as is the case of many books. In my genealogical research, I, like everyone else, have a number of "deadend" lines. As I began a serch of the Fayeeteville Observer marriage and death notices to see if they contained anything of value for me personally, I gained a great appreciation for the quality and quantity of information contained in the papers. I decided to extract this material, and prepare a complete index of it, so that others who would like to use this wonderful source could access it easily. I have attempted to include only the material of genealogical or unusual historical interest. Thus, in many caes, items like the name of the pastor who preformed the marriage, or the professions of persons are left out. Let me state, in bold letters that these abstracts are not a substitute for the actual obituary or marriage notice in the paper. They are intended as a guide to enable you, the researcher, to see the highpoints of a listing at a glance.

  • Over 800 marriage listings covering NC and upper SC.  Many contain much detailed information regarding the bride's family.
  • Over 1800 death listings covering the same area.
  • Complete Full Name Index (over 65 pages!)
  • Perpetual Calendar - to be used to determine the date when only the day of the week is given in the listing
  • 193 pages, 9 page introduction, soft bound, 8 1/2" x 11"Clear, readable text
