Wars and Military Activities

The men and women of Robeson County have been active in all of the nation's wars. Robesonians marched off during the Revolution to free us from British rule and then during the Civil War for state's rights. Robeson County and the nation were drawn into World War I and II, with many brave soldiers paying the high price of freedom with their life. The Korean Conflict and Vietnam once again drew on the brave of Robeson to fight. One unique war was Robeson's internal war known as "The Lowery War" which lasted ten years and saw blood shed by the whites and Native Americans.

While station there he was wounded three times and received three purple
hearts. On one occasion his dog tags were hit by a bullet thus stopping what
could have been a more serious injury. (Courtesy Red Springs Historical
